One of Asus’ laptops in the entry-level category (below $500) is the Asus K50IJ-RX05. Priced at just around $420, one may suspect that the 15-incher Asus K50IJ-RX05 could not live up to the expectations of an entry-level laptop user.

 

To allay those suspicions, let us take a quick look at the Asus K50IJ-RX05.  We will examine if its specs and configurations would satisfy an average computer user.

 

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 is powered by Intel’s older dual core processors, the Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200.  This processor, although, older is not obsolete at the least.  It could still perform at par with other entry-level processors, due to the 3 GB of read access memory. The Asus K50IJ-RX05 is also beefed up with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 graphic chipset.  With these combos, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 could outperform other thinking machines at its price category.

 

With Intel GMA 4500 Graphics Processor dynamic video memory technology installed, glaring at the Asus K50IJ-RX05’s 15.6-inch TFT active matrix display at a max resolution of 1366 x 768 would be a good experience.  The Asus K50IJ-RX05 may also be able to dish out good quality but casual games.

As for connectivity options, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 has a card reader that contains slots for a memory stick, multimedia card and a SD memory card.  Aside from wireless Internet connectivity, Asus also packed the K50IJ-RX05 with four hi-speed USB ports.

 

Also, there is nothing to worry about a system conking out suddenly to a dead battery – the Asus K50IJ-RX05 could last under four hours of usage.

Pros:

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 carries a sleek and slim design.  This laptop sports a bronze black finish that looks at par with any professional laptop out there. The Asus K50IJ-RX05’s box carries a dimension of 14.6 inches x 10.1 inches x 1.4 inches – making it one of the slimmer laptops in the 15.6-inch size category.  Of course, due to its slim design, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 only weighs 5.7 pounds.

 

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 also sports a nice, stylish and comfortable keyboard.  The keys are big and the entire board layout is well integrated with the chassis.  Its 15-inch display comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which allows watching movies played using its integrated optical drive without seeing the black lines.

 

Another good thing with the Asus K50IJ-RX05 is its good battery life.  A six-cell battery powers this laptop and could last up to 3 hours and 50 minutes at non-stop performance.

 

Despite being powered by an older Intel processor, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 could still dish out computing performance comparable to other laptops at its price category.

 

Cons:

Like other good laptops, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 comes not without a negative mark.  This laptop is not upgradeable.

 

Conclusion:

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 is a very good entry-level laptop worth buying – that is, if the user isn’t likely to require an upgrade during the machine’s lifetime.  Still, it can be regarded as a great acquisition for those who need a portable thinking machine for basic tasks.
