The Asus EEE PC 901 ranked fifth on our list of Top 5 Netbooks for 2009. Although small, the Asus Eee PC 901 has an 8.9” display that carries a resolution of 1024 x 600. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor and also uses 1 GB of RAM (DDR2). It has wi-fi capability through its 802.11n Wi-Fi and even has a Bluetooth. Unlike other small sized laptops in the market, it has 3 USB ports. Now add an integrated Ethernet, stereo speakers and a webcam. It is no wonder then that the Asus EEE PC 901 was included in the Top 5 Netbooks of 2009.
The long battery life is just one of its many features. Its processor and graphics card allows users to experience good and fast performance. The 802.11n Wi-Fi and mouse with gesture-compatible controls adds to the wonderful experience. With such features, it makes you wonder if the Asus EEE PC 901 is indeed a budget notebook.
According to the company, the idea behind the Asus EEE PC 901 was to make a laptop that was an improvement to the Asus EEE PC 900. By simply looking at the design, you immediately get a feel that it is an improvement. The laptop itself has been redesigned with a glossy lid replacing the matte coat. The hinge was even changed and it now has a circular and silver feel to it.
The trackpad of the PC 901 is much smoother than the PC 900. It is also bigger and more responsive in the PC 901. What’s more, there are now left and right click buttons.
The keyboard though still has the same size, which means typing or a long time can become very uncomfortable. This is of course, what’s expected of a netbook.
The PC 901 also uses a Windows XP operating system with no trouble at all. You can multi-task and not have to worry about a single thing. If you’re doubtful, try running Skype, Windows Media Player and all other applications. You’ll see that they all run smoothly.

Pros:
The new design was a smart move since the Asus EEE PC 901 now has a more appealing look. The addition of the buttons on the trackpad is quite thoughtful, so is the longer battery life.
Cons:
The main problem has to be the small keyboard. It’s not just hard to use if you have big hands, but it becomes tiring too once you do it for very long. Let’s not forget the noise that fan brings.
Conclusion:
People who buy netbooks don’t do it for the games. They do it for more practical purposes like buying things online, browsing the web or watching videos online. If that’s what you plan on using it for, then the Asus EEE PC 901 won’t disappoint you.
